Wave Separator 811D - Sludge Dewatering

Sludge dewatering with Wave 811D

Abbotsford, BC – Updated on April 28th, 2022. Today we’d like to introduce you to the Wave Separator 811D. This model is such a practical choice for many sludge dewatering projects. The “D” designation indicates that this specific unit is a sludge dewatering system, which offers and integrated pressure plate module. Similar to the standard Wave sludge thickeners, the 811D uses gravitational forces to separate the free water from the sludge solids. Eleven columns with oval disks move the material across the separation table in a low-impact, wave-like motion. The filtrate drains through the fine gaps in the wedge wire screen and falls into the filtrate tank below. As the machine continues to move the solids across the table, it gradually increases the dry matter of the solids material.

The dewatering module makes the difference

Now, this is the part where the “D” model stands out. An air actuated dewatering plate allows the operator to create additional back pressure as the materials moves across the table towards the discharge end. The mechanical pressure helps release additional water, which in turn increases the dry matter output. The pressure plate setting is adjustable allowing the plant operator to meet specific solids specifications.

Effective separation of liquid from sludge is possible due to the fine tolerances of the Wave’s wedge wire screen.

Especially for separation of larger organic materials the Wave 811D can be used as a screen without the addition of polymer. Especially the treatment of liquid waste at food processing plants is a common application. For fine solid separation, for instance in municipal sludge applications, we recommend the use of polymer and floc tank.

Because of its ability to produce higher dry matter, operators choose the Wave 811D mostly for dewatering applications. The 811D can process up to 100 gpm, whereas the comparable thickener model with similar screen size can process almost four times that volume.
