Manure Expo Farm Tour Manure Management At Aurora Ridge Dairy With MD Press

MD Press manure separator at 2024 Manure Expo

Earlier this month our team had an opportunity to showcase advanced manure treatment with the Trident MD Press during the 2024 Manure Expo farm tours. Like many other farms in the Northeast, the host farm Aurora Ridge Dairy processes manure with screw presses. The presses do a great job with the initial coarse solids separation. However, the fine solids in the effluent remain untreated. To optimize nutrient management and water quality a secondary treatment that focuses on the suspended fine solids is recommended. The MD Press treatment is a polymer-assisted process that concentrates and dewaters the solids fraction in a single process. It captures up to 90% phosphorus as well as other nutrients from the manure effluent. The high drymatter cake is stackable which benefits farm operations. The remaining liquid now contains only a very small fraction of suspended and dissolved solids. Not only does this minimize solids buildup in the farm’s storage lagoon, it also helps reduce emissions of potent greenhouse gases from the liquid manure storage.

“We are very impressed with the performance of the MD Press. Especially the high dry matter content of the cake solids is a big improvement for the farm’s manure management”, explains Adam Becker with Pikeside Ag Machinery. The farm tour attendees echoed his feedback.

The MD Press will remain on site for a few more weeks as demonstration unit. A big thank you goes out to the partners that supported this project including Aurora Chemicals, Pikeside Ag Machinery together with the team at Aurora Ridge Dairy.
