Earlier this month our team had an opportunity to showcase advanced manure treatment with the…
Rotary screen separator for dairy manure
The Rotary Screen Separator is a fundamental piece in achieving successful manure separation. The rotary screen is an internally fed drum screen separator that provides primary separation of liquid agricultural waste streams. The equipment is suitable for many manure types. The screens are available with different hole perforation, allowing the capture of manure solids based on specific particle size. Given that the rotary screen is mainly used for coarse solids separation, the most common screen sizes are 1/8”, 3/32” or 1/16”. Although both smaller and larger hole sizes are available too. Important to mention is that the rotary screen is also a great tool for pre-thickening. This is especially the case when processing flush manure or conditioning feedstock for anaerobic digester. The treatment helps concentrate volatile solids and delivers consistent solids content, which is important for adequate gas production.

The rotary screen separator is an important tool for manure separation. It offers robust operation, high volume capacity and can be used pre & post digester or for raw manure.
To control the solids capture, the farm can choose between different screen hole sizes. The operator also has the ability to adjust the drum’s rotational speed via a variable frequency drive. Slower rotation will increase solids capture while faster rotation will allow for higher flow and will also increase the output’s moisture content.
The most common rotary screen model features a 36” drum, offering the ideal balance between equipment size and throughput capacity. All models are equipped with a clean-in-place spray bar that allows effective backwash cleaning. Trident rotary screens are manufactured from stainless steel. Trident also offers several add-on options, including a stainless steel equipment platform with decking, stairs and safety rails. Another popular option is to use the rotary screen in combination with a screw press to process manure into recycled bedding material.
Whether you are planning for pre-thickening in front of a digester or as primary separator on the backend, the rotary screen will deliver robust separation performance. Call Trident at 1.800.799.3740 to request your quote.
